Light themes. It comes to a point where dark themes are too dark, hinting that it's a "dark" forum. Also, you can never see anything when it comes to dark themes, just like Ashley said. I don't mind them, but I prefer light ones. 🙂

I prefer light themes but that is the thing, its a preference and others might prefer dark themes. That is why having a choice of two is a good idea.

I too prefer light because it gives a positive feeling beside it makes lesser adverse effect on members' eyes.

I don't mind either, however when I chose a theme it's based off of what the community is geared around. Webmaster forums tend to be light themes, whilst gamers tend to like the darker themes as they tend to sit in the dark a lot more.

I prefer light themes more-so than dark ones however most of my websites are dark themes as that's what the community built around them prefers.

I'm a Light-Theme User. That isn't to say that I haven't used a Dark-Theme in the past. I always used the Dark-Themes before but when I switched to the Light-Theme, everything just felt so much better.

I can't even stand using a Dark-Theme as when I switch to it, I just find it ugly and it doesn't appeal to my eyes in the slightest.

Fun-Fact: One time on Reddit, I said that I use Light-Theme. Guess what. My post got 9 Downvotes. Lol.

While I prefer dark themes, I do have a dark and light themes installed on my forum. I might see if there's a mix of the two, since that's a good option to have as well. 🙂 However I think light themes better fit admin/webmaster forums and dark themes fit gaming communities.

For me, it depends on certain factors.  If your forum/blog is about horror movies, it would make sense that you'd have a dark theme.  So, the niche` may sometimes determine which theme you may have on your forum/blog.  Personally, I am okay with dark or light themes.  It doesn't matter to me which one you're using as long as everything is readable.

Light theme for me. Quite often I struggle to read the text on dark background and it hurts my eyes.

Ditto. Prefer light, but dark can be good too if done right but I have seen too many dark themes that I feel like could be better!

I prefer a lighter theme as long as the colors aren't annoying. The darker themes get sort of depressing to look at after a while.

This is exactly why I implemented a Dark/Light theme switch at GamingBoards, it's easily accessible on the right-hand side of any page and has pleased many of my viewers. It was well worth the wait having the code written for this feature to perform flawlessly.
