hey guys, I am sure you as Netizens you guys have a fair opinion on what kind of URLs you like and which ones make things more difficult for you when browsing around. If you have online projects you probably are already familiar with what to look for to get the optimal domain for your web.

From the top of my head, one of the things to avoid is using hyphens "-" and underscores "_" when creating your URL. It makes it harder to type and to highlight.

Another thing to avoid is making them unnecessarily long. Some people will try to cram every word for SEO and make the addresses harder to remember.

What about you, guys? What things do you reckon you should avoid when choosing domain names?

Make sure the domain name isn't in use by another site. I changed my link once and this other site was the same name but with an S at the end of the name and they threw a really hissy fit about it forcing me to change domain names again.

Oh I've had hella issues over the years when it comes to domain names. I would be a rich man if I was given money each time I bought a domain and it went down thepan due to various issues. As Demon mentions above, one of my own main issues was not fully checking who had what before getting the domain. I've had great (Well... I think they're great lol) ideas gone down the pan because of name similaritys, misspellings after buying the domain and loads more.

For me, when buying a domain it's important to check all angles. Is the name correct? Spelt correctly? Easy to memorise/spell/input for a user?

Simple things that will hopefully minimise mistakes!
