Have you ever made any mistakes and if so what were they?

Oh lots and lots of mistakes. How can you call yourself a webmaster if you haven't haha. For me, some of the stupid stuff I've done involve editing quite critical files on a live version of my site, causing it go down and lose all my data (fairly annoying...). I've also just done silly things as an admin that only managed to annoy my community really - which is never something you want to do. Luckily I had a co-admin at the time that managed to downplay it!
You're not a real webmaster if you haven't made mistakes.. It's how you learn! 😋
I still make edits on my live website before testing them, even though I know that I shouldn't. My excuse is that my website is only starting out, with just 25 members right now. Downtime therefore wouldn't be a major. That being said, I do make backups of any files that I edit so I can easily revert any changes pretty quickly.
I also have a handful of scripts that I've purchased and don't even use..

I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Haha, yeah that's always been my downfall! I have crashed my sites or stuffed up the style doing that so many times to be honest. I've tried to install a XAMPP localhost server on my PC and replicate the site on there so I can 'test' any changes I'm looking to make but it's hard to get over the fact I know it's about 10x quicker just to make it on the live instead lol.
I'm sure we all have.
If you have not made mistakes, you are not a real webmaster. How you're learning! That's the only way.
Yeah, plenty.
I was with free hosting and accidentally deleted part of my MyBB forum trying to perform an update and discovered my backups were not done properly and the host couldn't help me since I was in a free account.
I almost repeated a mistake. Glad it didn't happen. I was looking at changing hosts as I wasn't happy with the one we are with, but last time I tried that I got bored before the week was out and closed the site out of sheer boredom. Never letting that happen again. I want this version of Chatting Time to be as successful as the one I had in 2010.
All the time- I've made minor mistakes when formatting things or adding threads to larger mistakes such as punishing someone in a way that the admins found unacceptable. It's a learning experience.
