If you've ever used crowdfunding, when do you decide to publish your crowdfunding campaign?

I personally wait until I have a decent sized following. The reason behind that is the more people to donate to you in a short amount of time, the more likely you are to get featured and displayed by the crowdfunding service at hand.

This is what we did to create Sakuga City. We started a Gofundme for 500 dollars and raised almost 2,000. It's 3 years since we made the new site. We haven't monetised it and it's still being funded by that initial 2k. BUT... we already had an existing community that needed a new home after the old one was nuked by new owners. Pretty sure that every person who donated was a member of the old community.

Not sure how crowdfunding would work for a totally new community.

I agree that the crowd is important.  In other words, you need a list.  However, ironically, you need a list to do any business - practically!   However - again - it's massively tough building a list - and will probably cost a good deal of cash.  Also, of course, the amount needed for the list has to be massively smaller than the funds you expect from crowdfunding.

Anyhow, crowdfunding is a mystery to me - or I'd be doing it, LOL.   I don't really know how these successful crowdfunders are getting donations.   Can someone clue me in?

crowd funding is pretty good, though like gambling its lucky or not if you will get something out of it.

If you have a following already established it's pretty straight forward on if you're going to get anything or not. I opened up a crowdfunding and got around 3k I believe off of indiegogo.
