Some places, like Forum Promotion, have enough people coming in - that maybe the signature ads and other things could bring in something.  However, though, it still probably won't be an avalanche - but enough people so you aren't "down in the dumps".

Anyway, I remember when I was giving music lessons in the very early 2000s.  I got quite a number of clients from posting on grocery store bulletin boards - but that strategy did NOT work for the little "web store in a box" I had!

It doesn't really work member wise but it can boost your SEO traffic. After all, people go to FP to advertise, not to join a website.

Yeah definitely agree with the above. It will boost your SEO but not gain you new members. Although I have had a few registrations from FP.

When I was in the advertising business there was a saying that a person had to see your business name about 7 times before they would respond or be enticed to visit your place of business. I wonder if that still holds true for online sites?

I think advertising and joining different admin/promotion sites are good for building a good reputation and find connections. I might not have had an avalanche of members joining my communities during the years, but I've met people that have been willing to check my place out and that for me has been a positive outcome.

I definitely agree that being smart about where to advertise can help get your web closer to the right target audience or it.

Of course it does! 😀 In fact, that's why experts advise a social media and/or email list.  O.K. who has tried that way?

It sure is a perfect way of reaching to your targeted audience. Forum signature costs you very little but depending on your use of forums it reaches to various members and there is a good chance that they try your link even if out of curiosity.

There are free forums to advertise your site / company. Also, there are some facebook groups where you can advertise for free and get benefits of it.
