You simply cannot get good ad-free hosting - assuming you have a medium-high traffic site, by paying a few bucks a month - or even a year. That's why I always opt for re-seller hosting, even if I'm not reselling, for my shared plan or simply aim for a VPS or server.
Anyway, I don't think - something like $7 a month - is a too much money. I mean, even a child can afford that!
O.K. what is your average hosting bill per month? Is it worth it? Have you considered paying more for your hosting bill monthly? What would be your reasoning for or against?
These days you can get pretty decent hosting for around $10. Though the more popular your site becomes, the bigger the burden.

Hosting market is nowadays too competitive. Most people want to make money by hosting. They can buy a server and start selling. That's why they make special prices or discount. I think 5 to 7 USD is okay for hosting.
