I have recently learned about them through one forum. That one forum is in internet marketing niche. And they offer private access to specific forums. And they charge yearly, and 10 year basis. They seem to be charging pretty much fixed amount of money for the private access. I am not sure if the blogs can do the same. But if it works then what are some of the offers that can work.

Do you think premium memberships work out for blogs and forums?

Not really. I think you need to be really big and then offer free and also premium content to lure them in. The premium content needs to be stuff they can't get elsewhere.

Yeah, I guess so. Just make sure that what the user gets over the free content is more than what's offered in the free content. If it only gives the user, let's say...A cool name tag and access to 1 private board and you charged £14/Month for that. No one would buy that. Let's say you offered....A cool name tag, access to a couple of private boards(Maybe 3), access to certain features and testing new stuff. All of that for let's say....£14/Month. People would probably buy that.

Always remember that if you offer a good amount of stuff and price it right then people would want to buy it more.

The answers given here seem similar to the one I gave on the "account upgrades" thread.  Basically, it's all the same.  Of course, potential upgraders and/or premium membership users need to get something valuable in return - but a lot of forums are trying to get money - without that trade-off.

That still seems like a lot for nothing in return. I think forum premium membership only works if you offer something digital or physical in exchange... not just "forum features".

It's good to have a premium membership as an option in your forum or blog. This can generate more revenue to expand your website and make it better. But you must make the users to actually buy the premium membership. You need to offer something in return for their money and it must be worth it. In a forum you can give them private access to hidden boards, cool looking name tags, special tittles, rank images, more signature space, bold nickname, etc. And if you have a blog you can give the readers access to special articles that the regular users can't see. Also, the price mustn't be high so more people can support you. An amount of $5 per month seems fine most times and you can put a discount for longer periods. Anyway, you must make the user to feel the deal is worth it at the end.

Yes, it can be but only under all of these circumstances

  1. You must offer something to your customer and the service you offer must be worth what they're paying
  2. You need a strong member base and the
  3. The price must be reasonable.

A quick idea, Open a suggest topic asking what members would pay for?

I'm hoping that this has benefited you from reading my post today
