So we have different sites like Reddit (karma) and Twitter (likes) where people love to repost old content or copy jokes to karma or likes on their posts. Is there a reason why people care so much about these fake internet points? Is it for attention?

I would most likely say it's so they can gain a following(Twitter) and a good Reputation(Reddit).

Reddit is like the place of Memes and really poor Jokes. Reddit is also a bit of a strange place when it comes to things like Memes. One Person makes an original Joke. It only gains a small amount of attraction and up-votes. Somebody reposts that Post, it gains thousands of up-votes and thus' the Original-Poster is left with only a handful of up-votes.

As for Twitter, I can't say. I haven't used it but I might soon. Reddit is my home right now and it's essentially the place that I know of and have settled into.

I suggest you to use Twitter, the most reliable source of bringing visitors/views to your shared links. If you have used the proper hashtags the chances your share gets viral instantly. I have been using it for years and no other sharing site beats it.

It just proves that people truly do like their posts. It takes a bit more effort than simple posting.

I don't personally use Twitter but know a lot of celebrities using it every day. Also, Reddit has crazy traffic or lets say tons of users inside of them making posts. Good business!

Well karma on reddit is useful. If you reach a negative Karma i think you get banned or something like that!

seems like a good system to ban trolls, till they gang up and abuse it.

I agree with you that Reddit works wonderfully well but one should know how to use this site properly else the chances are the user account gets blocked. First off one has to use the proper sub Reddit. In some cases members  think they have done a good job there but it results in a blocked account.

As for the Internet points, it don't really matter to me. Someone can increase their points with 3rd party. It is how you can make a post that really matters.

I don't see anything wrong if a person wishes to increase his viewership with the help of third party sources. In fact, this is very much suggested to take help of all available sources to get going and stay in circulation to rank well on search engines.

Yes, the points won't matter. The only thing that matters is content.

I've done it on reddit a lot, but that's because Karma matters for a few things. In order to make your oown sub reddit you have to have 1k karma I believe. So, you strive to get the karma to at least 1k. After that it's kind of died down for me. I do have points on my forum, but I use them to exchange physical goods like Domain Names, Websites, etc.

I don't really care about that stuff tbh but I guess it is a good boost for social presence as it makes you stand out from the rest.
