I would stick to traffic from Bing/Yahoo, Google, and Facebook.  Other types need to be avoided or studied very carefully.  For instance, banner traffic MIGHT be legit.  However, pop-under traffic is SO SHADY, that there's a good chance it's crap.

Could you elaborate on your original post please? I want to know what exactly is and isn't safe in terms of traffic

Search engines are obviously a better result for traffic however is purchasing advertising on discussion boards, blogs and YouTube a good option?

Thank you.

I'm mostly bashing pop-under traffic, or stuff similar (expired domain traffic etc.).  It's that stuff where you can get 1000 visitors for 1 dollar (Well, that might be a little exaggeration!).  Anyway, I also took aim at banner traffic - cause I just don't trust it, mainly because the site owners (selling the stuff) could be lying or misinformed.

I have come across many platforms that advertise that they give genuine traffic, which in most cases are true but may not be niche correctly.

I have seen some advertising networks due to my experience in using the said platforms what people have used such as Propel Media and Trafficvance. These networks are pop / display traffic networks if they are not niche correctly they just throw random visitors which mean nothing to the site they are sending traffic to.

From my experience using these ad networks you need to carefully target to get the correct traffic to your site.

So with this said, networks that say we send traffic etc etc... and you buy into this they may use these networks without carefully considering how to send the right traffic which means waste of money for you but good for them as they earned from your hard earned cash with 0 results.

Again i have seen more networks that send fake traffic using software and proxies which is not too great and cheating us out of money.

If i was to use paid traffic would be on established networks and if i did use the above Trafficvance or propel media i would niche it correctly to get the right visitors that i am targeting so they don't throw random visitors on my sites or content.

But with that said i prefer the free method of building traffic this gives you more stability and strength to your website but it does take time and effort which in the end provides better results in the long run.

Well, a double problem is that - even if the traffic is good - if it's not put into a list (of leads), it could be money thrown away!  You know what I mean?

There is a tendency of people to want "something for nothing" - but it doesn't work that way with anything substantial.
