So as the Title says, what do you think about creating Dummy Accounts on Forums?

To those who don't know what a Dummy Account is, it's essentially an Account that acts as an Account for testing something(E.g. Banning someone) or for deceiving People.

A lot of new Forums take Advantage of Dummy Accounts to make it look like there is actual Activity going on in the Forum and that there is an active Userbase.

The Creators of Reddit apparently did this and look how big the Site is now. All it took was some Dummy Accounts and then it grew to the size it is today.

I myself, did create Dummy Accounts for an old Forum of mine and I was able to receive a couple of new(And Real) Users. Now, I do think it's wrong to deceive somebody like this but if it's just for testing then it's pretty much okay.

No. I don't have time for dummy accounts and it's just pointless. I'd rather spend ages and find someone who can bring something to the community and last long.

I wanted a bot for our site but it wouldn't work with what we have (our tech guy said) so I created a dummy account that's the bot and I go in from time to time and post things and welcome new members. It's a play on a bot from another site I used to be on so the members from that forum remember it and have fun with it. Most of them know it's me  😀

I've done it in the past and, if done smartly, it can help boost a starting forum and it also helps with SEO (since you can really optimize those initial posts). If you don't have the money to pay for posting, this can kickstart a forum. Not to mention that, it can be used together with paid / exchanged posting to give it that initial boost.

I do have a testing account on my site, as well as a few hidden ones in times of emergency.

If done for the purpose of testing it should help but I don't see any other utility whatsoever. It would be like one man show which will do nothing but waste your own time.

I have my main account, a "Debug" account that I provide to third-parties when I require support, and a dummy user account to try and increase overall activity (because sign-ups have been and still are very slow).

I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.
