Traffic is the heartbeat of a website. The more targeted traffic a website receives the more money it is likely to make. In fact, increasing traffic to a website is one of the fastest and most effective ways to increase the revenue. However, it is important that traffic is targeted.
A famous blogger, who gets nearly half a million visitors on his blog daily made just around $ 1000 from AdSense. The simple reason is that you can get all the traffic you want, but if people are not interested in what you have to sell, traffic is a bit worthless.
In that thinking, there are five important things you can do to make your site traffic grow in a way that will help you to monetize your site in a successful manner.
- Post a forum:
Have you ever imagined that the forums are quite old school? Well, just because they have been around for years, does not mean it is not a good way to drive traffic to your site. Forums are often noticed because they have a lot of potential to bring positive results. At the same time, when done correctly, reposting forum posting will have huge effect. Apart from Internet marketing forums, forum members at various niches are usually very friendly and receptive towards good and useful content.
If you are a member of the forum for some time and contribute to the flow of posts on a regular basis, moderators of those forums are most likely to welcome a senior member (you) writing good quality content and dropping a link to the post. The key is to find the right kind of forum that matches your own site. If you run a mother blog, you may want to check out some catering or child care forums. You have to share something useful, such as a family recipe or a dose of advice and not breastfeeding in public. Drop a link or two back to your blog so people can read more of these topics.
If you run a blog about finances, look for forums about investing in a mutual fund or about different retirement investments. Post your own experiences and link back to an article on your blog. When you get the idea, find a forum that relates to your writing, make sure that their policies allow you to post a link, and share important information that helps others. The key here is not to spam the forums on self-propagating messages. Be useful to the community and just drop a link when a member asks for one or it really adds value to the discussion thread.
- Write impressive content and let it go viral:
Every website or blog owner has a dream to write something good and great that goes viral and suddenly there comes a lot of blog traffic that they see an increase in the sales, mailing list subscriptions as well as advertising revenue and it is possible. But most of these things require time and effort.
Forum signatures seem to be the best way to get free traffic. However, as you say, the forums need to high traffic forums.
O.K., does anyone think blog comments would get more people? Well, guest posting could get a lot, maybe the same or more (as blog commenting or forum signatures) - and that could be free, assuming the blog is desperate for writers.
Depends on the PR and DPA and all that stuff really. Also the authority of the blog! Usually niche blogs are worth it.

You can also promote your site on Social Networking sites like Facebook.

Facebook is one good way of promoting your stuff but only if you have a large dedicated following with good interaction. In most cases your followers like your posts but very few care to click the link to see what you wanted to say/show. However there are other good sharing sites which work well for sharing and bringing viewers.
As for the content, try to maintain the originality. Don't copy and make sure your post is genuine.

Getting something to 'go viral' isn't exactly easy to do either. You have to share this 'viral' post on high traffic forums and other social outlets, to reach a broader audience.

I wish I could get some of my site's posts to go viral, but sadly I don't have much luck in that area.
