What are your thoughts on premium/paid memberships on forums? If you were to pay for a premium membership on a forum, how much would you be willing to pay? For how long? and what sort of features would you expect to be able to have opened up to you that regular members didn't have access to?

The forum would need something that I find extremely valuable. For instance, if I could get insider tips on improving domain metrics - with little/no cost - then I'd sign up right away. OK, another thing valuable to me would be free music lessons.
Anyway, it depends on what people find valuable - and it's subjective. However, if your forum is targeted toward a specific niche that wouldn't be a problem. Nonetheless, general discussion forums would have a tough time finding something people are willing to shell out for, right? What might that audience want?

Pretty much this, though these days forums aren't really worth sticking money into.

It depends on the features that are given to me. I would not pay for a simple username change or name color or a badge. I would prefer something substantial for example access to a private forum with beneficial content.

Yeah this is the kind of stuff that I would prefer. On an old forum we ran we used to give our VIP members access to a VIP Forum where we as staff used to place resources into. This was back when I was a kiddo in the webmaster world but I'd basically nick resources from lots of places I was on at the time and reformat them for my website. A bit of a 'placebo' value and stuff I wasn't meant to share but meh. Got me some VIP peeps haha.
See, here's the problem: Premium memberships tend to offer nothing new. A private forum, a fancy coloured name and some less-harsh rules in that particular forum. There's no value in it, it's basically just a donation to keep the site running.
