One little trick I have found that is important in getting members to return to your forum, especially new members is to ask them a question! It's simple sometimes when they offer enough information about themselves to pose a question but if their intro is Hello I'm new Here then it's more difficult.
So what do you ask? Well, if they say Hello, I'm new here you can ask, "How did you find our site?"
If they say in their intro, I Like Dogs! You don't say I like dogs too. That gets you nowhere. Ask them, "What breed of dogs do you like best?" or "How many dogs do you own or rather how many dogs own you?"
Oftentimes we want to share our opinion but to increase activity we need to learn how to get that community feel and the best way is to ask someone a question. People want to feel needed and liked and asking a questions shows that you care enough to take the time to engage with them.
That's not a bad way, it would keep them coming back.
Its similar to yours, but for me its just creating a community they are eager to keep on coming back.

I like the way admin of BMF offers small jobs through email which earns him money through different channels and he gives a major share to his members. Most members do find something interesting on each return and complete some regular tasks too. Two birds hit by one stone!
I also kind of offer an incentive to turn fake forum money into real money. Should you post enough.

I do events every so often and try to keep fresh content within the boards to keep my members entertained. You have to see things from a visitor or members perspective. They want to see the community is well maintained, moderated, updating/evolving, and fresh content to read with new members to interact with. It's a handful running forum communities in today's age of social media, it's certainly not easy but it's well worth it if you're passionate about what you do, and that will show.

I totally agree! When I go to a new forum I don't want to see the same two names slathered all over the site. I want a variety of members posting and I want to see current posts all over the site and not just in one section.
