If you have been around online communities for a while I imagine you've come across cases like that. Some people are just clueless and some others are just entitled and want the easy way.

I've seen forums just created that have the same description as another popular one, heck I've seen promotion forums advertising in the same community they copy and paste stuff.

I remember once in one of my forums, we had a girl doing PM spam to tell members if they wanted a real forum to go visit hers. She was dumb enough to PM even me, the freaking owner. At first, I was amused since her community was completely empty. No other members but her. It seemed alright until I realized she had ripped some graphics. While not all of my graphics were original (some were game sprites) the ones she took I had created them and coupled with the way she not only took my stuff but then tried to take my members away, really painted a bad picture and I'd be lying if I didn't admit it made me pretty angry.

The weirdest thing by far I have seen other people stealing from forums are the rules. I kid you not. Some people can't even be bothered redacting their own rules so they just go and copy paste other people's rules, without even making sure it all makes sense. Haha.

Anyway, have you ever had anything stolen from your projects?

Did you ever do something like it?

I've been guilty of stealing graphics and/or layouts in the past, and got found out with it a couple of times.. As I said in another thread, we all make mistakes - it's how we learn!

I've never stolen graphics nor has anyone stolen mine, I've just never been successful enough for that. I've never stolen rules, either, but I will admit I have used other site's rules as a structure to build my own rules.

We all make mistakes. Even myself have made allot of mistakes that we all learn. For me my spelling and grammar  is bad, Very bad to the point that it make it even harder to the point that I had to get help regards my end but at times always try and keep it to your own words.

"Privacy Policy" That can't be copied at all and boy you get the stick on that! I seen sites go down for that. Lucky for me I did my own.

Oh wow this reminds me how someone joined my forum to tell me I had ripped off a name for one of my sub boards, which was called Powered Off, which is a fitting name for a gaming forum for an off topic section.

I pretty much just laughed at the person and told them to get lost.

Seriously..? That forum name would be fitting for most tech based communities.

I mean, maybe if you were a member of said community before starting your own, but even then it's kinda clutching at straws.

Some people are simply too full of themselves.

I have done both. Clone someones work and had my work cloned too. Either way, as long as you do it yourself and don't get someone else to do it or use something then its fine. That way you learn!
